The Biomechanics of Superior Power

Cycling is the art of converting your body’s biophysical power into locomotion energy. A natural human stride begins with a heel kick, pivots through the arch, and finishes with a strong forefoot push. Conventional pedals ignore the heel, arch, and forefoot, wasting energy. Avid Propel Pedal changes everything.

The foot’s arch is your body’s natural fulcrum. The Propel pedal’s spindle is the mechanical fulcrum of the stroke. By fitting the spindle directly under the foot's arch, the two fulcrums align to create a dynamic “rod with end bearings” effect. Power flows straight from the leg through the pedal, maximizing pedal stroke acceleration force.

Center and Centric

The Avid Propel center-and-correct fit design allows the rider to adjust the pedal's heel and forefoot bridge components to fit the rider's shoes.  

   1. Place the spindle centric to your foot’s arch.  

   2. Slide the adjustable heel cup along the deck slots to lock in your exact foot length and keep the arch perfectly centered.  

   3. The elliptical heel cup collar cradles the back of your heel while the forefoot bridge pointer aligns to the same center line.  

  4. Position the bridge under the forefoot push bones and in the yaw control straps.

The result is a stable, connected platform that lets you push, recover, and power through every stroke revolution, managing acceleration, recovery,  pitch, yaw, and roll foot torques.  On the return pedal stroke, the heel cup and forefoot inbuilt alignment allows the foot to relax and restore power expended during the acceleration stroke phase. The Avid pedal design is a full-foot, full-stroke design for rider energy transfer and power recovery.  From the ride's first push-off, the rider experiences the propulsive force overcoming the stroke's pushback effects. The ergonomics of recumbent road trike engineering aim to reduce pushback drag and limit power-to-energy transfer loss. The Propel Pedal integrates with the trike's ergonomics to create an efficient riding experience.
